    ‘Visions in the Open Air’

This exhibition will feature approximately 100 paintings, done on location, by 28 unique artist members of the Ontario Plein Air Society. The subjects vary from landscapes, urban-scapes, country-scapes, harbours and more. This exhibition shows that new twists on traditional styles such as post-impressionism, impressionism, Fauve, Canadian Impressionism are emerging in new artists as well as more seasoned artists. You’ll see paintings ranging from highly realistic to almost abstract. In all cases, there were painted sitting right in front of the subject, rain or shine.

Join us at the Artists’ Reception between 1pm and 5pm Saturday, November 22. Many of the artists will be in attendance for the reception, and there will also be prizes awarded for the top works in our show, as judged by Dalibor Dejanovic, a splendid, plein air, pastel painter.

OPAS is a young organization, formed 5 years ago by Zan Barrage. For the last 3 years it has been run by Keith Thirgood and a volunteer Board of Directors. Its mandate is to promote plein air painting in Ontario. The Society is a non-commercial group dedicated to serving its artist members and educating the general public about plein air painting.

  • Deck the Walls: Dec 6-31

Opening Reception: Saturday Dec 6th, 2-6pm

Festive Reception: Thursday Dec 11th, 6-10pm

    Exhibition: Dec 6-31, 2014 *EXTENDED until January 7th, 2015

Project Gallery will be hosting it’s second large-format salon style exhibition of contemporary artworks from Dec 6-31, 2014 entitled DECK THE WALLS. There will be an opening afternoon reception on Saturday Dec 6th from 2-6pm, and an evening reception the following Thursday Dec 11th from 6-10pm. The Salon exhibition style was established in 1667 in France by the Academie des Beaux-Arts and held in the Louvre. To accommodate the vast quantity of work submitted by students of the Academie, artworks were displayed from floor to ceiling with little space separating frames. This style has since been incorporated throughout history in museums and galleries, including the Art Gallery of Ontario’s display of its European collection. Project Gallery will be integrating this historic exhibition style for the second time with the gallery’s walls strategically filled with over 500 artworks that are 12” x 12” or smaller.

Featuring over 850 artworks by 156 artists:
